Femi Elufowoju, jr (Director)
Originally trained as a Solicitor in Nigeria and London, before obtaining a degree in Dramatic Arts from Bretton Hall, Leeds University. He subsequently worked as an actor for six years before retraining as a Regional Theatre Young Director in 1996 under Philip Hedley at Theatre Royal Stratford East. Femi founded Tiata Fahodzi in 1997 and has been its Artistic Director for the last nine years.
Other artistic associations include Associate Director (2004 traineeship) Royal Court Theatre London, Associate Director (2003) West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds.
Productions and readings directed for the Royal Court include Daydreams Of Hailey by Michael Bhim (Young Writers Festival, 2005); The Repast by Newton Moreno (International Writers, Summer Residency, 2005); Bone by John Donnelly (2004); Monkery by Apoorva Kale (International Writers, Summer Residency, 2004); Umze by Beartriz Goncalves (International Season, 2004); Senhora Of The Dunes by Egilberto Mendes (International Writers, Summer Residency, 2003). For the West Yorkshire Playhouse: Medea by Euripides, translated by Alistair Elliot; Off Camera by Marcia Layne. As guest director for Salisbury Playhouse: Dealer’s Choice by Patrick Marber; as segment director for Queen’s Golden Jubilee 50th Anniversary Celebrations: Commonwealth Parade (2002); as Guest Director for Theatre Royal, Stratford East/Swedish Tour; Tickets & Ties (devised); It’s Good To Talk (devised). At Southwark Playhouse: Acquisitive Case by San Cassimally. Femi recently directed The Big Men by Richard Bean (2005) A Platform Performance in the Olivier Theatre as part of the Royal National Theatre’s G8 Season of work.
