Words and Pictures

How video and multi-media can be used in performance from a writer's perspective, led by Andy Lavender - Artistic Director Lightworks Theatre Company / Porfessor of Contemporary theatre central School of Speech and Drama.
You will participate in a process-writing exercise (partly on your feet!), working with simple starting points and a couple of rules. You will conceive and present a short excerpt that features video in performance. The workshop will conclude with a brief discussion as to the dramaturgical possibilities of multimedia theatre, and writing processes that maximise its potential.
London as a Landscape

Ways to connect with the capital as a source of inspiration, led by playwright Oladipo Agboluaje. Plays include The Christ Of Coldharbour Lane and The Estate (Soho Theatre).
Hip Hop Theatre
19 July, 2-5pm
Explore how words, movement and music merge, led by Excalibah, radio DJ for Galaxy FM / co-composer / Musical Director DA BOYZ Theatre Royal Stratford East.
Using improvisation, combined with the dynamics of hip-hop theatre you'll explore how the use of the music culture's 'rules' can influence your performances and help build and create character. You'll also explore how these same techniques can be used to give a new and contemporary feel to both classic and modern theatre texts.
Writing Off-Stage

How to write for non-traditional theatre spaces.
All the World's a Stage... so why not use it? Fish markets, housing estates and karaoke bars - a workshop exploring practical approaches to writing for non-conventional spaces.
This workshop will explore practical approaches to writing for non-conventional spaces and with specific groups. Led by Director Suzanne Gorman and Writer Justin Young, who are currently collaborating with local residents and organisations to create a walkabout performance through Soho and Chinatown to celebrate the Chinese Autumn Moon Festival.
