National Youth Theatre presents
30 minute plays commissioned for the NYT
short NYTs: victory street
by Rebecca Manley, based on the novel by Richard MacSween
directed by Peter Collins
20 - 25 August 2007

During a long hot summer the smouldering tensions in Britain's Northern towns are being reignited by fear and paranoia. Racial hatred is nothing new to the residents of Victory Street: one of them fled from Nazi Germany; another was witness to the bloody partition of India. But this is a new threat made all the more real because it comes from within the community.

An ensemble cast brings to life the novel by Richard MacSween in a stunning piece of visual theatre. Dissecting the dark heart of Britain, this is a tale of a community searching for its identity, a people struggling to live together.
