Poor Beck
11 - 19 March 2005

‘I have here a flower. I have here grass. From the surface. The surface is safe.’

In an underground city, Myrrha’s family is torn apart when a stranger arrives promising a bright future. A contemporary reworking of the story of Myrrha from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Poor Beck is a rich exploration of love, language and the senses.

Joanna’s other work includes The Three Birds (Gate Theatre, 2000) and most recently Five Gold Rings, directed by Michael Attenborough, at the Almeida Theatre in 2003.

‘Hers is an extraordinary voice that deserves nurture.’
